Legoland Florida
Legoland Florida is slated to open in October 2011 as the replacement for Cypress Gardens in Winter Haven. It will feature rides, shows and attractions - many of them hands-on and educational. It is aimed at the pre-teen members of your family. More details are here. |
Allure of the Seas Cruise Ship
Royal Caribbean's newest cruise ship, Allure of the Seas, sails for the first time from Ft Lauderdale on December 1. The $1.2 billion ship is 1,200 feet long and will be home for 6,300 guests and 2,400 crew on weekly cruises in the Caribbean. (The Dec. 1st sailing is a shorter 5 day trip. The 7 day excursions start on December 5.) This ship (along with its sister ship Oasis of the Seas) offers fun on a giant scale. You can learn more and see a slide show of the ship here. |
What should you bring when you come to Florida?
We suggest that the top priority item to bring is a smile. We guarantee that if you bring a smile, we'll help you expand it. The natives (and the transplants) of Florida are friendly, but they don't tolerate grouches too well. While the wife shops, sit a spell on one of the benches and strike up a conversation with whomever you're sharing the bench with. You will meet the nicest people that way! We recently spent a very pleasant half hour chatting with a gentleman from England. We answered some questions he had about Florida and he laughed about some of my experiences when I visited London. He introduced me to his wife when she showed up and they both went away with big smiles. |
Florida Factoid
We have big gators! The longest alligator on record in Florida measured 14 feet, 5/8 inches. It was captured in Lake Monroe in Seminole County. The heaviest gator weighed 1,043 pounds and measured 13 feet, 10-1/2 inches. It was captured in Orange Lake in Alachua County. |
